Fit a bird guard to your Stockport Chimney before the nesting season!
I have been sweeping chimneys around the New Mills, Mellor and Disley areas this week. This is an ideal time to get your chimney swept and ensure that you have the right bird guard or cowl on your chimney pot to ensure a nest free flue. I revisited a house that had a bird's nest last year to find another there this year - they just keep coming back. We can fit all bird guards and cowls once assessed but it is always worth getting the chimney swept in the first instance.

Don't forget to have your chimney swept during a Spring Clean!
Now that Spring is here (technically speaking), it's a great time to have your chimney swept. I carried out a number of chimney sweeps this week in and around Marple, Mellor and High Lane. Sometimes, customers contact me to ask if I can come and have a look at their stove because it's not working properly any more.
A blocked or sooty chimney can stop your stove working properly
Most times this is due to the chimney not having been swept for a long time. A blocked or very sooty chimney can eventually cause a fire and / or lead to harmful fumes coming into the house. Call our Marple Chimney Sweep Service if you are looking for a Chimney Sweep in Mellor or the Stockport area.
Marple Chimney Sweep gives good advice across Greater Manchester
Spring is in the air and a good time to get your chimney swept. I have been busy this week sweeping chimneys in Marple, Mellor and Hazel Grove. Whenever I visit a customer's house I will always advise on any issue of safety. Yesterday I visited a customer in Heaton Chapel whose hearth was only 2-3 inches from the open fire - not nearly deep enough. A fire could easily be started by embers falling out of the fire onto the wooden floor.
Fully insured NACS registered Chimney Sweep based in Stockport
As a NACS registered sweep I am fully insured and will also be able to direct customers to appropriate fitters etc. Another customer in Davenport was advised to obtain a CO carbon monoxide alarm - an inexpensive way to help ensure the family stays safe and is alerted in time if there is something wrong.
January is a great time to get your Stockport Chimney Swept!
Many people are now getting back to sorting out their chimneys ready for what could be a cold few months. Now is a great time to get your chimney swept after the very busy pre- Christmas rush. The first few chimneys I swept this year were for people who had just moved into their new houses in Marple and Offerton.
Sweep all the chimneys when you move into a new house
It's always a good idea to have all chimneys in a property swept - even if not in use - as often there will be a huge amount of debris in the flue which can often cause damp problems. In two out of three houses I had to clear out 2-3 bin bags full of twigs and masonry. It's also a good idea to get disused chimneys capped if not in use - this will prevent further rain getting in but allow for ventilation.
