Chimney Sweeping in Didsbury and Chimney Sweeping in Chorlton today
Over to Didsbury and Chorlton today to undertake chimney sweeps. I carried out a 'sealed smoke test' after doing the first chimney sweep in Didsbury. Before fitting a stove, or indeed any appliance, or converting from a gas fire to an open fire for example, it is essential to have the chimney swept and undertake a proper sealed smoke test to check whether the chimney is in a sound state free from leaks. The way of carrying out the test is to cap the chimney at the top and then seal the fireplace opening before placing 3 or 4 smoke pellets in the chamber. The task then is to check the loft and each floor to see if the smoke is leaking out where it should not be.
A draw test or a sealed test are two things a chimney sweep can do for you
Some people mistake a 'draw test' for a 'sealed test'. A draw test is simply to check that the flue is not blocked and the chimney is drawing OK. A draw test is carried out by me after each sweep but a sealed test can also be arranged.
